The Barcelona power house Lionel Messi has become the most decorated player in Barcelona’s history. This historic award was conferred on him yesterday after he led his team to win the Spanish Super cup over Sevilla. The Argentine skipper who failed to progress from the group stage in the just concluded Russia 2018 World Cup has yet again proved that he remains a force to reckoned with.
The match started with Sevilla clinching a single goal lead in the first half before Pique’s leveler just before the break. Barcelona went on to take the lead with an amazing goal from Ousmane Dembele to seal up their victory.
The significance of yesterday’s win is that Messi is now the sole holder of the award of the Most Decorated Player in Barcelona’s History; an award he previously shared with Iniesta. Mess now has 33 trophies to his name which moves him a step away from his former co-awardee Iniesta whom they held the most decorated player award together with a tie of 32 trophies. The Spanish golden boy is still breaking records even as the season begins on a very positive note.
